PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Norma “Sandra” Cassandra Wright Nelson, 64, of 1179 Grassy Knob Road, Pilot Mountain, wife of James Donald Nelson, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Nelson was born in Rockingham County on Jan. 6, 1944, to the late Sandy Richard Wright and Jessie Lillian Norman Wright. She was a licensed practical nurse having retired from Carolina Residential Service. Mrs. Nelson worked as a mentally handicap adult caregiver and was a substitute special education instructor through Surry Community College. Surviving are her husband, James Donald Nelson of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sheila and Scott Lambert of Mount Airy and Cindy and Joel McCraw of Mount Airy; niece and husband, Charlotte and David Van Hoose of Georgetown, S.C.; nephews and wives, Leslie and Jewel Wright of Stoneville and Dwight and Diane Wright of Critz, Va.; special friends, Arnice Hawks of Mount Airy, Minnie Koontz and Marion Peterson of Pilot Mountain and Lynda Hudson of Ennice; and former husband, Alvin Pratt of Stoneville. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by a sister, Rachel Hodges; and two brothers, Charles Wright and Jack Wright. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Earl McCraw and the Rev. Lynda Hudson with burial to follow in the Stoneville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and other times at the home of Cindy and Joel McCraw, 219 Smith Landing Rood, Mount Airy.
