Michael Ray Bowman is wanted in connection with numerous break-ins in Surry and surrounding counties, according to city police, who released additional details Friday concerning a Wednesday incident that resulted in the arrests of two other suspects.
The three men were in the process of stealing video game equipment and a television set from the Wards Gap Road residence of Elissa Ann Debnam on New Year’s Eve when a witness observed the break-in and dialed 911.
Upon responding, Mount Airy police were able to arrest Jason Lee McBride, 29, of 1200 Boxwood Drive in King, and Larry Mitchell Tilley, 17, of 1117 Fireside Lane, also in King.
However, Bowman fled on foot and was still on the loose Friday night.
When police apprehended McBride and Tilley, a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup the men were using was impounded, according to arrest records. Each was confined in the Surry County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond, and the two were still in custody Friday night.
A joint investigation between Mount Airy police and the Surry County Sheriff’s Office after McBride’s and Tilley’s arrest led to their being charged with a string of breakings and enterings in Surry County.
McBride is accused of seven counts of breaking and entering, six counts of larceny and six counts of possession of stolen property, all felonies. Tilley is facing nearly identical violations, amounting to one less count in each category.
During the Wednesday break-in that led to their capture, the men allegedly had stolen an Emerson 19-inch flat-screen television set, a Nintendo video game system and a Playstation video game system from the Debnam residence. That property, with a total value of $450, was recovered.
The suspects had entered the home after kicking open a front door.
Anyone with information as to Bowman’s whereabouts is asked to call the Mount Airy Police Department at 786-3535, Crime Stoppers at 786-4000 or the Surry County Sheriff’s Office, 386-8900.
