Expect lots of mud, obstacles, hill climbs, and a ton of dirty fun at the sixth annual Marine Mud Run 5K on Saturday at Jomeokee Park and Campground.
The annual event was created to raise money, awareness, and support for Marines and their families around Winston-Salem and across the nation who have been wounded or killed while serving on active duty. Profits from the Mud Run are also used to support Wounded Warrior Battalion East located at Camp Lejuene, Toys for Tots, Veterans Helping Veterans Heal, Young Marines Youth Program, Military Order of the Purple Heart, NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury, and Wreaths Across America.
Adult races start at 8 a.m. There will be four to five waves starting every 10 minutes depending upon participant count. Pollywog (children) races start at 10 a.m. Team waves are set to begin at 10:45 a.m.
Cost is $30 for adult races, $120 teams of four, and $10 for children younger than 12 who don’t run the race in its entirety.
Awards are given to males and females in each age division: 13-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. The top three teams will also receive awards and all children in the pollywog event will receive an award.
