Franklin teacher honored

Christi Smith was recently chosen as the Surry County Schools Exceptional Teacher of Excellence for 2017-2018.

The nine-year classroom veteran is in her fourth year as an exceptional children’s teacher, working at Franklin Elementary School, after having spent five years instructing fifth-graders and one year teaching kindergarten students.

”Mrs. Smith loves her job, but more importantly, she loves her students,” the school system said in making the announcement. “She is committed to their success as individuals. During her leisure, she enjoys spending time with her husband Tony Smith, a teacher at Dobson Elementary, and her son Oakley.
