DOBSON — Surry Central volleyball bounced back from a tough first-set loss to defeat West Wilkes 3-1.
Coach Carrie Hutchins believes her team is steadily improving this season, but they have to continue to play their game rather than allow their opponents to force the action.
The Lady Eagles (4-4) dropped the first set 25-21, but responded to adversity well and clinched the second set with a 25-20 victory.
The Golden Eagles carried this momentum into the third set with an easy 25-14 win. They were able to finish the Blackhawks off in the fourth set with a final score of 25-19.
Taylor Coe and Ashlyn Jewell led the Eagles attack on Monday. Coe recorded 11 kills while Jewell provided nine.
Jewell also recorded 14 assists, but it was Sarah Ford who led Surry Central in that category with 28.
Madison Robertson and Jess Fowler anchored the back row for the Golden Eagles and notched 22 digs apiece. Robertson, the team’s libero, also served cleanly and did not commit an error in 15 tries on the evening.
Central returns to action on Tuesday at Carver in its Western Piedmont Conference opener.
