DOBSON — This summer, the Surry County School System offered countywide athletic camps for soccer and tennis for the first time.

SCS athletic director Mr. Tom Hemmings said these two paid camps went extremely well. He added, “Parents of the student participants said they were happy we provided the camps and were complimentary of the management of the camps. I was very pleased with the number of participants for each camp and look forward to increasing participation in the upcoming years.”

Surry Central High School hosted the tennis camp from July 17-20. Twelve students in grades 2-8 participated. Maggie McKee, Surry Early College; Carolyn Tedder; Pilot Mountain Middle School; Mason Midkiff and Mark Parsons, Surry Central High School, were the instructors.

Fisher River Park was the site for the soccer camp from July 31 through August 3. Twenty-three students in grades 2-8 participated. Eric Riggs, Gentry Middle School; Stan Gentry, Pilot Mountain Middle School; and Neal Oliver, East Surry, were instructors.

Mr. Hemmings expressed his appreciation to Surry Central High School and the Surry County Parks and Recreation for allowing the school district to use their facilities.
