DOBSON — With first place in the Western Piedmont Athletic Conference securely in their grasp, the Surry Central tennis team turned up the heat as they started their second go-round on Thursday evening.
The Lady Eagles improved to 6-0 in conference play with a 9-0 rout of Forbush, a match that featured three double-bagel victories from the lower half of the Surry Central singles lineup.
Scoring 6-0, 6-0 victories for Central (8-5 overall) were Nos. 4-6 Sarah Marion, Anna Senter and Haily Robertson, with Robertson tabbed as the Player of the Match by head coach Holly Porter.
The Lady Eagles at the top of the lineup didn’t have bad days themselves. No. 1 Sarah Wyble downed Stephanie Swain 6-2, 6-1, with second-seeded Hope Hinson scoring a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Alyssa Southern. At No. 3, Hannah Pardue defeated Bethanie Snow 6-1, 6-0, just missing a shutout of her own.
The doubles matches were just as one-sided. Wyble and Hinson beat Swain and Southern 8-0 at No. 1 doubles. Senter and Pardue also had a shutout at No. 2, while Robertson and Marion lost just one game in their victory at No. 3 doubles.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday at West Stokes. Central defeated West 9-0 on Sept. 8 in King.
