Mount Airy tennis padded its stats with a couple of easy wins on Wednesday.
The Lady Bears made up one rainout by playing a doubleheader with Winston-Salem Prep at home.
The Lady Phoenix have struggled to field a full team since joining the Northwest Conference and only brought four players this week.
The Bears won every game in both singles and doubles in the first match. Then they repeated that success in the second half of the doubleheader.
Mount Airy was missing its top seed, Lauren Brintle, because of a family obligation. That didn’t matter since the Phoenix were two players shy of a full set.
Second seed Elizabeth Marion moved up to Court One, and the rest bumped up as well. Lisa Omuro was in the lineup as the sixth seed, but she and Elizabeth Bray earned forfeit wins in both matches.
Marion, Coleman Craddock, Maya Hicks and Logan King all won 6-0, 6-0 in each half of the doubleheader.
In doubles, Marion and Craddock won 8-0 in the first match, and Hicks and Omuro won 8-0.
In the second match, coach Rodney Pell let the top doubles pair rest, and he shifted the doubles pairs.
Hicks and Bray won 8-0, and King and Omuro won 8-0.
The two wins improve Mount Airy’s record to 19-2 overall and 9-2 in the Northwest Conference.
The Bears travel to East Surry today for the final match of the regular season. The Northwest Conference Tournament will be next week.
