There was no letdown for the Surry Central girls tennis team on Wednesday evening.
The Golden Eagles, less than 24 hours removed from a victory over county rival North Surry that gave them the driver’s seat in the Western Piedmont Conference race, visited West Stokes and had no problem whatsoever in sweeping all nine matches from the Wildcats.
Central (8-4, 6-0) won all six singles matches in straight sets, never losing more than three games in any set. The doubles matches were just as one-sided, with the Eagles losing just three games altogether.
In the singles, Summer Chilton beat Lauren Palmer 6-2, 6-0; Mallory Wilmoth topped Stephanie Henry 6-1, 6-0; Hope Hinson downed Anna Brown 6-3, 6-1; Sarah Wyble defeated Catherine Nachard 6-1, 6-0; Anna Senter beat Rebekah Martin 6-1, 6-2; and Hannah Pardue scored a double-bagel victory over Caroline Cook at No. 6 singles.
In the doubles, Chilton and Wilmoth defeated Henry and Brown 8-2, Hinson and Senter beat Palmer and Nachard 8-1, and Wyble and Pardue shut out Martin and Cook 8-0.
Central will try to make it three victories in as many days this evening, when the Golden Eagles pay a visit to Forbush for another conference match.
