Time is running out to sign up for the upcoming soccer and volleyball camps scheduled for mid-July at Mount Airy High School.

The Granite Bears are hosting their sixth annual Young Bears Soccer Camp on July 10-13, while on the court, the Lady Bears will be hosting their 14th annual volleyball camp on June 10-12. Registration is currently under way for both camps.

The soccer camp will be held daily from 8:30 a.m. to noon on the MAHS soccer practice field. It is open to rising third through ninth-graders of all skill levels. Instructors for the camp include Mount Airy coaches Will and Holden Hurley and several members of the Bears’ boys and girls soccer teams. The camp will include instruction in fundamentals of the game, skills training, games and other fun activities.

Campers attending the soccer camp will need shin guards and cleats or tennis shoes. No open-toed shows will be allowed.

The cost of the soccer camp is $70 per child, with a $20 discount for siblings. A free team bag is included. Forms are available at Mount Airy High School, or call Coach Will Hurley at (910) 723-7759.

The volleyball camp is under the direction of MAHS head coach Chuck Morris as Camp Director and MAHS junior varsity head coach Amy Balthis as Assistant Camp Director. Other staff members will include current and former volleyball players for Mount Airy High School.

The volleyball camp is designed for players to learn the fundamentals of volleyball and strengthen the skills they currently possess. It will focus on basic and advanced skills, competitions, team play and individual instruction will be offered as well. It is open to all rising 5th through 9th graders, and will be held each day from 9 a.m. to noon in the gym at Mount Airy High School.

Registrations will be accepted all the way up to the morning of the first day, but there is a discount for those who sign up early. The cost of the camp is $50 if paid on or before July 1, and $60 after that date. T-shirts for the camp are only guaranteed for those who have signed up by July 1.
