KING — Mount Airy’s seven-match unbeaten streak came to an end against West Stokes Monday.
The Granite Bears lost their first two games to open the season, then strung together six straight wins and a tie.
Coming in, the Bears’ potent offense had scored at least three goals in every match and were averaging 6.2 goals per game.
Mount Airy scored the only goal of the first half, but West Stokes shut the Bears down for the entire second half.
Instead, it was the Wildcats with the offensive explosion, getting four goals in the period.
West Stokes is 5-1-1, with its only loss coming at 4-3 to Mount Tabor, a 4A school.
The Bears are back in action today at North Surry, a team the Bears beat 3-2 on Sept. 1.
