ELKIN — North Surry picked up its first soccer win of the season, 2-1, over Elkin Tuesday night.

With 17 minutes left in the first half, Elkin broke the ice with a one-on-one try with the keeper.

Then about 10 minutes later, North junior Jonathan Cabrera scored the Hounds’ first goal.

Cabrera received a pass from the left side and put the ball away to tie the game.

Eight minutes into the second half, North scored off a deflected free kick. However, the score was waved off because of a push in the back by one of the North players.

The score remained tied until just 10 minutes were left. North senior captain David Martinez scored the game winner.

On Monday, the Hounds travel to East Surry for a nonconference match.
