Make it five-for-five for the Lady Bears.
Mount Airy won round two of the Northwest Conference golf round-robin to be held at Cross Creek Country Club on Wednesday, making it a clean sweep of all five regular-season conference meets headed into the conference championship tournament on Monday.
Alyssa Cox won her fifth medalist honor, leading everyone with her 37. Cox won all five conference meets and was rarely challenged in any of them. As a team, the Lady Bears won decisively, taking the meet with a team score of 143, 19 strokes better than runner-up East Surry. Only a massive collapse can prevent Mount Airy from securing the team title next week when the teams meet again at Cross Creek. South Stokes was third at 168 and North Stokes shot 171.
Mattie Noonkester (51) and Kayden Jenkins (55) were the other two Mount Airy players whose scores counted toward the team total. Bailey Flippen, Abbi Jackson, Tatyana Long and Carley Michael also played for the Lady Bears.
Madison Bowman (52) led the way for East Surry. Elizabeth Carson (54) and Eliza Hart (56) also scored for the Lady Cardinals, with Breana Nelson, Anna Akers, Brooke Hege and Jamie Smith also playing.
North Stokes’ Hailey Shepard actually finished second overall to Cox, shooting 50. Jade Britt (57), Lorin Sizemore and Rachel Martin also played for the Lady Vikings.
For South Stokes, Rachel Fenner led the way with a 54, followed by Jessica Joyce at 57 and Mallory Tedder, also at 57. Salem Washburn and Anna Kate Cheek also played for the Sauras.
