Only two games take place this week as one school has a bye week.
Surry Central hosts Mount Airy in the big game tonight, while North Surry hosts Atkins.
East Surry takes this week off, then comes back next week to host Atkins in the first Northwest Conference game. That Sept. 25 also will be homecoming for the Cardinals.
Mount Airy will take its bye week next Friday, and North Surry and Surry Central will be off the following Friday (Oct. 2).
In the marquee game tonight, the Granite Bears take a 3-1 record into Dobson where the Golden Eagles (1-3) are coming off their first win.
The Eagles beat Elkin 21-6. The Bears beat that same Elks team a week earlier by 63-7.
Mount Airy has to fight against a letdown after nipping its rival last week. The Bears beat North Surry 16-15 on a last-second field goal from 40 yards out by Robert Brown.
North Surry went into that game averaging 37.7 points per game and had 15 by halftime. However, the Bears’ defense stifled the Greyhounds in the second half.
Surry Central averaged 12.3 points in its first three games, but got three scores against an Elkin defense that gave up 48.7 points in the first three games.
North Surry won its first two games by a wide margin, but then played East Surry and Mount Airy.
The Hounds lost by just three to the Cards (35-32) and one to the Bears to even their season mark at 2-2.
Now North has a great chance to get back to its winning ways against a winless Atkins squad that has been shut out twice.
The Camels are only averaging 4.5 points a game while giving up 50 points.
That porous defense combined with North’s air raid offense could make for a basketball-like final score.
