Mount Airy’s two gyms will be packed with basketball again today as the Lady Bears’ summer hoops continue.
Nine other teams are joining the Bears over Friday and today in both the main gym and the old junior high gym next door.
The Bears are fielding two teams: a white team, which is an early guess at the varsity roster, and a blue team.
However, coach Howard Mayo is mixing and matching players on both squads so he can see how the girls all play with each other in game situations.
Other schools taking part are North Surry, Forbush, Ledford, Bunker Hill, Davie, Floyd, Rockingham and a blue and white team for Carroll County.
The scrimmages are 20-minute halves with a running clock that only stops in the final minute of each half, which is also the only time players shoot foul shots. The rest of the game, a foul means one point and the ball back to the fouled team.
In the main gym, Ledford and Floyd start play today at 9 a.m. They are followed by Forbush and Carroll County’s blue team at 10 a.m.
At 11 a.m. is Mount Airy’s blue team and Floyd, then Rockingham and Carroll’s blue team at noon.
At 1 p.m. is Davie versus North Surry, then Carroll’s white team and Floyd. Mount Airy’s white team and Davie play at 3 p.m., with Carroll’s blue team and North Surry in the final game.
