As a part of a new high school, Millennium Charter Academy junior Kaine Lovill took a chance by sticking around, instead of transferring to an alternate, more established athletics program.
However, Lovill is seeing his patience rewarded as he continues to build his basketball acumen and repertoire with the Lions. As a sophomore captain last season (2015-2016), Lovill nabbed all-conference honors as well as team MVP. This season, as a third-year captain, the 6’1” Lovill led the entire Central Carolina Conference in points per 32 minutes (12), assists per game (4), steals per game (4) and blocks per game (6), while finishing fourth in rebounds per game (7). Lovill also nabbed all-conference honors for a second straight year, and finished the season as second-best in North Carolina for blocked shots among all varsity men’s basketball players, placing him as the eighteenth best shot-blocker in the nation with 110 blocks over the course of 20 games, according to MaxPreps.
Lovill is a candidate for Carolina Athletic Association for Schools of Choice (CAASC) All-State honors. The team will be released at a later date.
“Kaine is an incredible athlete and leader…he is the consummate coach on the floor and has been for many years”, stated head coach of MCA’s men’s basketball program, Coach John Lovill.
Kaine Lovill needs 279 points to reach the 1,000 point milestone for his career. Therefore, he plans to continue working throughout the offseason to improve upon his performance this year. He said that he wants his “senior year to be one to remember.”
