Last week, Mount Airy head girls basketball coach Angela Mayfield talked about her team had been chomping at the bit to play a real game after six weeks of nothing but practice.

Going into tonight’s rematch with county rival North Surry, the Lady Bears still haven’t stopped taking their long, unwanted layoff out on the competition.

Mount Airy improved its record to 3-0 on Friday night, routing host North Stokes 68-29 for their second win in Northwest 1A Conference action.

The Lady Bears bolted out to a 25-7 lead in the first quarter and shuttled players in and out of the lineup throughout the night while never allowing the Lady Vikings (1-9, 0-3 NW1A) to score more than eight points in any quarter.

In its three games this season, Mount Airy has won by a total of 114 points.

The Lady Bears will rematch the Lady Hounds tonight in the MAHS gym. Mount Airy beat North Surry 55-40 last week at North.

The Mount Airy boys, who sustained their only setback when they faced the Hounds last week, improved to 2-0 in conference action with an 86-74 victory in Friday’s second varsity game.
