Schools haven’t even reopened yet, but North Surry already has finalized plans for its Christmas basketball tournament.

In recent years, North has hosted a holiday tournament for JV teams, who often get left out of the Christmas events.

However, this year North is holding a varsity event featuring teams from this area taking on teams from the Winston-Salem area.

Mount Airy, East Surry, Starmount and East Wilkes will join North Surry in taking on East Forsyth, North Forsyth, Mount Tabor and R.J. Reynolds.

Mount Airy will only have a boys’ team in the event, while East Wilkes only has a girls’ team.

The event is sponsored by SouthData of Mount Airy in partnership with North Carolina Second Harvest Food Bank.

Admission to the 2015 SouthData Winter Classic is $10 per person or $5 with the donation of three non-perishable items for the food bank. Second Harvest will have folks on site to collect the donations.

The games are on a Tuesday and Wednesday before Christmas Eve.
