Mount Airy Country Club was back in action earlier this week, as it hosted its annual Junior Club Championship on Monday and Tuesday.
The Junior Championship saw the entrants play the entire nine-hole course once on each day, with the low score winning and just one flight in each age group.
In the 8-9 age group, Rhett Currin was the medalist with a two-day total of 58-55 — 113. He trailed eventual runner-up Carter McPeak by one stroke after day one, but ended up four shots better than McPeak’s final 57-60 — 117 tally.
Brandon Bowman was the medalist in the age 10-11 group. Bowman shot identical rounds of 49 on both days for an aggregate score of 98. The runner-up was Avery Payne, who was four strokes behind Bowman on each day and claimed second with a score of 53-53 — 106.
Mount Airy Country Club plays to a par of 35 over its nine holes and 3,075 yards from the adult tees. The Club held its adult and seniors championships in late July.
