Annual SCC Health Fair broadens it focus

DOBSON — Surry Community’s third annual health fair broadened its scope Tuesday. The changes were fueled by the college’s focus on student services and sense of community as it observes its 50th anniversary.“The direction we went this year really is part of our school’s renewed emphasis on student services,” said SCC Coordinator of Health, Wellness and Development Anne Marie Hardy. “For lack of a better word, I wanted to make the fair represent more of a holistic approach to health. We have a massage therapist and an acupuncturist, for instance.”


Board hears budget update

NCDOT to begin I-77 repaving in Surry County

The N.C. Department of Transportation will begin work on a paving rehabilitation project along Interstate 77 near Mount Airy on April 22.One lane of I-77 from mile marker 95 to 99 will be closed until the project is completed.NCDOT crews will begin the project with full-depth patching operations along the four-mile stretch of road, followed by milling and replacing the road surface.
