Budbreak Wine Festival celebrates local wine industry
The Budbreak Wine Festival, Mount Airy’s downtown wine festival, will be held May 4 from noon to 6 p.m. The fourth annual wine festival offers wine tastings and sales from 15 North Carolina wineries, multiple food vendors, local artists and musical entertainment. Proceeds from the event will benefit charity organizations supported by the Mount Airy Rotary Club, who partnered with the Downtown Business Association in order to host the event....

Tour de Mayberry set for May 4
The 13th annual edition of Tour de Mayberry is set for May 4. The event will feature cyclists, walkers and runners traversing the roads in and around Mount Airy, raising money for Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care. Citizens Police Academy graduates recognized
More than 30 local residents now have a better understanding of law enforcement operations due to completing Mount Airy’s Citizens Police Academy. The 2013 class of the academy was recognized during last Thursday’s meeting of the city commissioners, when its members received diplomas. • A man stopped for speeding early Tuesday in Mount Airy was found to be wanted on a felony charge in Mooresville, according to city police department reports. The stop of Anthony Norris Jr., 45, of 147 W. Lebanon St., occurred on Rockford Street near Broad Street, with officers learning that his name had been entered as state-wanted in the National Crime Information Center database. City schools name curriculum director
Mount Airy City Schools have named Dr. Kim Morrison to the position of executive eirector of curriculum and instruction. Morrison will fill the position left vacant by Vickie Cameron, who announced her retirement March 28 after 40 years and two months of service in education.
