Woman jailed, charged with stealing police car
An apparent joyride in a city police car has landed a Mount Airy woman in the Surry County Jail under a $50,000 secured bond. Charges against Christy Lynn Sawyers, 31, of 410 Broad St., were announced this week by the Mount Airy Police Department, stemming from an incident last Thursday at Granite Town Centre on South Andy Griffith Parkway. A Mount Airy woman who fell asleep and left her young child unattended — who then wandered into the street — has been charged with an abuse violation, according to city police. With rain a possibility on Saturday, steps have been taken to ensure Mother Nature doesn’t put a damper on a 10th-anniversary celebration of the Shepherd’s House.
