Two local teens serve as House pages
RALEIGH – Two local high school students recently served as pages in the North Carolina House of Representatives. Keely Hodges, a student at North Surry High School, and Kaitlin Draughn, a student at Mount Airy High School, both served in that capacity, each sponsored by Rep. Sarah Stevens, R-Mount Airy. Bicyclists selected from three routes: The 100-mile Tour de Mayberry, which includes a climb up Pilot Mountain; the 44-mile scenic Edwards Franklin House tour; or, the 19-mile tour of Mount Airy, which winds through many sites made famous by the Andy Griffith Show.</p>

Budbreak car raffle ends in controversy
Although the annual Budbreak Wine Festival drew a large crowd and was proclaimed a success by some of its organizers, controversy erupted in connection with a fundraiser at the festival in downtown Mount Airy. Board to limit comments at public hearings

I am thoroughly convinced that every man, woman and child in the private sector could lose their jobs right down to babysitting gigs, and there still would be public-paid employees somewhere expecting a cost-of-living raise. While everyone likes to earn as much as they can, that doesn’t mean governmental workers should be oblivious to others in society who not only aren’t getting salary increases but have no jobs at all in many cases.
