National English Shepherd Rescue sends dogs to new homes
Thursday afternoon volunteers from the National English Shepherd Rescue prepared a group of dogs, rescued from Pilot Mountain after their owner died, for transportation to foster and adoptive homes. The rescue group presented Dr. Mark Hauser and his staff at Surry Animal Hospital with a certificate and jars of Vermont maple syrup as a thank you gift. Cleanup of unusual items brings out scavengers
In what could be Mount Airy’s version of the Bermuda Triangle, the city will begin collecting unusual trash items from residences next week — some of which might disappear before sanitation crews even arrive thanks to scavengers. A 48-year-old county probation officer is dead from a gunshot wound. According to Dobson Police Chief Sean Myers, maintenance employees discovered the probation officer dead in his office around 7:30 Wednesday morning. Myers said that James Matty was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound from what they believe was a .40 caliber handgun. • A Mount Airy woman is facing a larceny violation for allegedly taking duct tape from Walmart, according to city police department reports. Chelsea Brook Creed, 23, of 323 W.
