Local jobless rate jumps to 11.1 percent
Surry County’s jobless rate increased a full percentage point in January, remaining in the double digits, according to numbers recently released by the North Carolina Department of Commerce’s Division of Employment Security (DES). In January, the county reported an 11.1-percent unemployment rate, an increase of one percentage point over December’s rate of 10.1 percent. Autism walk will draw attention to growing problem
