DOBSON — The Lady Eagles braved the elements to take a fast 9-0 win over Starmount Tuesday.
Tuesday’s heavy rain did cause the ground to be muddy on the sidelines where the water runs off, said Coach Matt Richardson. However, the field itself was in pretty good shape.
Surry Central needed only about 45 minutes to go up by nine points, ending the game on the mercy rule.
Richardson said he was glad to be able to get the game in because rescheduling can be difficult. There have been times in the past when the team has played games on three straight days.
In this one, Haylee Harrison assisted to Kelsey Taylor for the first goal of the game.
Taylor, a sophomore playing varsity soccer for the first time, scored three more goals in the game, and Harrison finished off two goals herself.
Sarah Bruce added two goals and Kourtney Hiatt one.
Richardson said he didn’t have anyone tracking assists this game, but he wanted to credit his team for making some good passes out there.
Taylor was a starter on the varsity volleyball team and the JV basketball team. She is attempting to play both soccer and JV softball this spring, noted Richardson.
“She has shown potential to really help us out,” he said.
“It was a solid team effort,” he said. As a coach, he wants the team to improve on something every day, and he liked what he saw from the squad in this match.
The Eagles (3-0) host North Forsyth on Thursday.
