A pair of ESLL 6-8-year-old teams came together at the Jack Palmer Field Saturday evening for a game and an evening of fun dubbed “Slugging for a Cure.” The evening marked the culmination of a fundraiser in which the youths garnered more than $1,900 in donations for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation Triad Chapter. Players from the Red team and the Dirty Birds had solicited donations from family and friends as well as in their community and from their own banks. “We’re proud of them,” noted East Surry Little League Dirty Birds Coach Jody Davis, a primary organizer of the effort. “They really stepped up to raise this money.” Additional donations were also raised during the evening. Here, players from both teams, joined by the Chick-fil-A mascot, make their way around the bases during some warm-up fun.
