PILOT MOUNTAIN — The Surry Runnin’ Patriots won a conference game Tuesday against the Greensboro Panthers by a score of 46-43 at home.
The Patriots are now 2-0 in the triad conference.
Head Coach Todd Hill of the Runnin’ Patriots said the team was down by 12 points at the half.
Hill said, “In the first half, the team did not play good defense, did not box out, or take care of the ball and we did not get the 50/50 balls.”
The score at half-time was 27-17 Panthers, said Hill. Then, said the coach, “We talked about ‘want to’ at half-time.”
The Patriot girls came out after the half and won in scoring in the third quarter. The Patriots had a score of 32-34 with the Pats down by two points at the end of the third, said Hill.
Hill said the key to the overall win came in the fourth quarter and was because of the success at the foul line. The Pats coach said the team shot 75 percent from the foul line in the fourth period.
Hill said Sydney Bedsaul had 14 points, Joye Harrison had 13, and Jessica Boyd had seven. Camille Fishel and Kaylee Paris each scored six points for the Patriots.
“They really played ball in the second half, and as a team being good and balanced,” Hill said.
The Surry Runnin’ Patriots play High Point at the Armfield Civic Center on Friday. Hill said if the Patriots win the game, then it will give them the conference regular season title.
