The Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Mount Airy received the InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) 2012 Torchbearer Award, the highest honor awarded within its parent company.
IHG is a global company that operates seven hotel brands, including Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza and Candlewood Suites.
The local hotel was presented the award during the company’s 2012 IHG Americas Investors and Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., recently.
The Holiday Inn Express & Suites in Mount Airy is one of 102 properties in North and South America chosen from among 4,500 hotels for the award.
The Torchbearer Award recognizes hotels that achieve the highest levels of excellence in all aspects of operation, from quality to customer satisfaction, according to a statement released by the company.
With the announcement, the hotel will display a 2012 Torchbearer trophy, which is described as the company’s symbol of excellence.
In making the announcement, Kirk Kinsell, president of the American division of IHG, said the local property should be an example company-wide.
“It is my pleasure to name the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Mount Airy as one of the top-notch hotels in our industry,” he said. “This hotel embodies the heart of our brand promise and continues to make IHG properties known and admired throughout the world, continuing our mission to deliver great hotels guests love.”
Trudy Willard, the general manager of the local Holiday Inn Express & Suites, said she was awestruck by the honor.
“Out of so many properties, they only choose a few to recognize with this award,” she said. “It really recognizes us as one of the best in the chain. This certainly demonstrates that every member of our staff cares about each and every guest that comes through the door.”
Willard said the local property couldn’t do it without a top-notch management crew.
“They’re awesome,” she said. “They’re very supportive and are there for me any time I need them.”
