Those in attendance at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History place bets at the roulette wheel.
While the legend of James Bond carries 50 years of history with it this year, the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History and its fans celebrated in style at the Casino Royale party on Friday night.
According to Matt Edwards, executive director of the museum, the night truly was a success.
“Everyone came out and had a great time. This is the kind of event that we want people to want to come back to year after year,” said Edwards. He said that while more $100 draw-down tickets were sold than last year, he still would have like to have sold a few more.
The draw-down prize for the night was $6,000. The prize winners that tied were Steve Simmons and Renfro Corporation.
The winner of the James Bond look-alike contest was James Derrick and the Bond-girl contest was won by Lee Lawson.
Those in attendance enjoyed dinner and drinks, followed by a night of gambling. While they were not gambling with real money, it seemed that everyone in attendance was having a good Las Vegas-style time.
Alice and Alan Connolly said they came out to the event to support the museum.
“This is always a fun event. We came last year,” said Alice Connolly.
The couple started out with $20,000 each in “play” chips and ended up with $120,000 at the Black Jack table.
“It’s great to get to see lots of people you haven’t seen in a long time. The food is great and this has been a good time,” said Connolly.
Alex Fowler and his wife Jill were winning big at the roulette wheel table.
“This is excellent. We came out tonight to support the museum and have a great time,” said Alex Fowler.
Emily Loftis said it was a “great party” that was “lots of fun.”
She said her husband Steve Loftis loves playing Craps, but didn’t fare well at the roulette table.
Dereck Higgs said he is a docent in training at the museum. He said he and his wife were having a great time.
At the end of the night, Edwards said he was pleased with all of the people who came out to support the museum.
