North Surry edged Mount Airy 3-2 in baseball Wednesday night.
Pitcher Nick Wilson rolled through the early innings and pitched into the seventh for the win.
David Shaeffer came on in relief for the save.
The Greyhounds couldn’t capitalize on some early scoring opportunities.
They had two runners aboard with one out in the first inning, then the first two batters reached in the second inning.
The team had runners reach base in five of the seven innings, noted Coach Travis Gammons.
Mount Airy’s Wes Bumgardner pitched himself out of those early jams, including striking out back-to-back batters in the second inning.
Not only did he get the save, Shaeffer made the game-winning hit, driving in Caleb Cockerham in the top of the seventh to put North ahead.
The Hounds host West Stokes on Friday, while Mount Airy hosts Surry Central.
