LEXINGTON — The Surry Runnin’ Patriots ladies basketball team claimed a one-point victory over Sheets Memorial Christian School team on Monday night in Lexington.
Sheets led during most of the first half while the Patriots experienced foul trouble early on, said Patriots Head Coach Todd Hill. With two minutes left to go in the first half, Krissa Hill threw a pass to Kaylee Paris who hit a three-pointer, then Sydney Bedsaul followed with a two-point basket to tie the score at 20-20 at the half, Hill said.
The team got better on the boards in the second half and “found the seams,” said Hill.
The Patriots ended the game on a 7-0 run, then made a defensive stop with just seconds remaining in the game.
“We then ran out the clock,” for the 38-37 score, Hill said.
The top scorers of Monday night’s game were: Kaylee Paris who scored 17 points, and Jessica Boyd who scored 11 points.
Joye Harrison recorded five assists and four steals. Camille Fishel hauled in seven rebounds.
The team’s record improved after the win to 10-1 overall.
The Surry Runnin’ Patriots will play their first conference game on Tuesday against Greensboro Home Educators in Greensboro at 4705 N. Church St.
