THOMASVILLE — Mount Airy competed in a tri-meet wrestling match against North Moore and Thomasville on Wednesday and won against North Moore but got thumped against Thomasville, said Mount Airy wrestling coach Steve Braune.

Braune said the team had what he called a “re-focusing” meeting after the Bears lost 18-58 to Thomasville Bulldogs and before wrestling North Moore.

The meeting apparently worked because the Bears came out ahead winning Mount Airy Bears 75-6 over North Moore Mustangs.

The head coach said one of the most intense moments of the wrestling match and the highlight of the evening was between heavyweight Bryan Bennett and Andrew Moore. The match between the two wrestlers lasted five minutes and 33 seconds and Bennett finally ended the match by outlasting Moore 2-0 and in a reversal move got a pin, said Braun. The win made the score 69-6 in the third period, said Braun.

The results and times were for the Mount Airy versus North Moore wrestling match were:

106 Alex Howard Mount Airy North Moore wins by forfeit

The Bears will have a week off as they don’t wrestle again until the East Wilkes Duals next Saturday.

The day-long event will feature five teams from North Carolina and five from Virginia. Mount Airy hasn’t received a lineup yet, so Braune doesn’t know which five teams they will face that day.

From North Carolina are East Wilkes, Mount Airy, North Surry, Glenn and Mount Tabor. Virginia has Magna Vista, Martinsville, Patrick County, Carroll County and Galax.
