DOBSON — Surry Central built an early lead, then Starmount rallied to nip the Eagles 39-37 in wrestling.
The Golden Eagles held a 20-6 lead early on with Kevin Pack looking good in a technical fall at 120. Mason Snow also wrestled well in getting a decision win, noted Coach Stephen Priddy.
However, the Rams clawed their way back.
Priddy said he had to give the Rams credit for winning some spots he thought his team would take, including a big battle at 195 where Bryant White lost a close decision.
Jared Dimmette nearly pinned his man at 170 with a cradle and earned three points for back time. He was still leading when he injured his right leg. He tried to continue the match, but was caught late in the third period and pinned.
There are a lot of guys who are tired and aching from coming over from football, and there are several guys who have been battling cold and flu bugs, noted the coach.
The Eagles gave up forfeits at 106 and 126 because of illnesses.
Uriel Secundino and Zack Martin wrestled well and were in firm control of their matches, but the Eagles just missed catching with the Rams.
East Surry also took part in the tri-match with Surry Central and Starmount, but those results were not available at press time.
