DOBSON — The undefeated Surry Central Golden Eagles girls varsity team got its fourth soccer shut-out match of the season after winning by a score of 5-0 against Bishop McGuinness at home on Tuesday. They now have a record of 5-0 overall and are 2-0 in the conference.

Junior Haylee Harrison led the scoring effort against Bishop scoring two goals, one in the first half and one in the second. Also, scoring one goal each for the Golden Eagles against Bishop were: Junior Tess Dockery (first half), sophomore Emilee Stanley (first half) and sophomore Laura Dobbins (second half).

Kelsey Taylor had two assists in the scores — one to Harrison and one to Dobbins.

Head Coach Matt Richardson said, “We did play a good game and I am happy we can play this well at this point in the year. I am proud of the defense to hold the shut-out.”

The coach said the entire defense communicated well against Bishop and to shut out a team as good as Bishop McGuinness is something to be proud of, said Richardson.

He said he especially wanted to commend goal keeper Chandler Musson for her play on Tuesday.

“She had to make some divine saves which she came up with and did very well,” said Richardson. He said Musson and the team picked a good time to step up and showcase their talent against a conference quality team like Bishop.

The Golden Eagles girls have had shut-outs against Starmount, North Forsyth, Elkin and Bishop McGuinness, thus far.

They are scheduled to play West Wilkes on Thursday and North Surry on Friday with both games scheduled away.
