The name of the victim that was killed in a Thursday night mo-ped accident was released by authorities on Friday.
Brandon Gene Bowman, 25, of 147 W. Oakdale St. died after the mo-ped he was driving collided with an SUV at the intersection of West Lebanon Street and North Main Street. The accident happened just before 9 p.m. Thursday.
The driver of the Ford Escape was Eddie Ray Humes, 61, of Mount Airy.
According to police, Bowman was traveling southbound on North Main when Humes allegedly made a left turn into his path. Bowman’s mo-ped was lodged underneath Humes’ SUV where it came to a rest in front of ProKlean at 102 West Lebanon Street.
Rescuers found Bowman unresponsive at the scene. He was pronounced dead at Northern Hospital of Surry County at 9:33 p.m. Thursday night.
Capt. Alan Freeman with the Mount Airy Police Department said police want to talk to the driver and passengers in another vehicle that was known to be in the area at the time of the crash. He said that vehicle was no way involved in the crash, but may be able to provide police with eyewitness information.
The accident is still under investigation by the Mount Airy Police Department.
