Organizers have announced plans for a triathlon here next spring.
The event, titled Tri-Mayberry 2013, will take place April 21 in and around the city.
Starting at 8 a.m., the triathlon will include a 300-yard swim, a 28-km bike ride and a 5-km run.
Participants will begin the morning with a swim in the pool at Reeves Community Center.
The bike ride (equivalent to 17.5 miles) will loop around the city with law enforcement assisting with vehicular traffic.
The 3.1-mile run will loop around the downtown area of the city, ending with a jog down Main Street. There will be one established water stop to replenish runners.
All proceeds benefit Mount Airy Rotary Club and the RCC Foundation.
For those who sign up by the end of the month, there is an early-bird discount of $55 per participant or $85 for a mixed relay team.
For those who sign up in January, the fees are $60 per person or $95 for a relay team. For the month of February the fees are $65 and $105. From March 1 to April 7, the fees are $70 and $115.
This is a sanctioned event by USA Triathlon. Those who aren’t a member of USAT must include a $12 fee.
The minimum age for participation is 10 years old.
Top 3 in each of the following categories:
Awards will be given out for the top performers in several categories. There is the top finishers for men and for women.
Then there are age categories: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and older.
Also there are the top finishers for the mixed relay teams.
