• A Mount Airy man was arrested Sunday on felony charges including breaking and entering, larceny of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm, according to city police department reports. The charges had been filed in mid-December against Matthew Justin Monday, 27, of 158 Old Toast Road, by a member of the Surry County Sheriff’s Office. An order for arrest for failing to appear in court also had been issued at that time against Monday, who was located by police at the Granite Town Centre shopping center on South Andy Griffith Parkway after information was received by city communications personnel. He was held in the Surry County Jail under a $6,500 secured bond and is scheduled to be in District Court on Feb. 18.

• A Jonesville man has been charged with a felony in connection with a Sunday night incident involving dog treats at Walmart. Rex Gregory Lindsey, 58, allegedly obtained the dog treats, valued at $12, without paying for the product and then received store credit for it, police records state. It was recovered by a store employee and Lindsey was released under a $2,500 unsecured bond and is to appear in Surry District Court on Feb. 14.

• Tim Scott Brown, 40, of 174 W. Pine St., was served Monday with a warrant on a misdemeanor charge of assault, inflicting serious injury which had been filed on Aug. 17. Police found Brown walking in the area of Rockford and Creed streets after a civil disturbance in which he was involved. Christopher Kyle Wilson, a Siloam Road resident, is the complainant in the assault case, for which Brown is to be in District Court on Feb. 13.

• Two people are facing violations of concealment of merchandise Sunday at Walmart. Mitchell Dean Carpenter, 26, of 158 Gwynwood Drive, allegedly concealed four bottles of cologne valued at $122, while the offense against Kendra Beth Williams, 27, of 132 Holyfield Drive, involves makeup products worth $11. Both are scheduled to be in court on Feb. 19 and have been banned from the store.

On Friday, Williams had been arrested at Northern Hospital of Surry County for failing to appear in court and was held under a $500 secured bond. Her court date in that matter is Feb. 1.
