MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Tollie Henry Poteat, 88, of 249 Imogene Church Road, Mount Airy, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Poteat was born March 5, 1924, in Surry County to the late Andrew and Elva Kirkman Poteat. Mr. Poteat retired from Pike Electric as an equipment operator and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Bertha Ayers Poteat of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Phillip Henry and Pat Poteat of Mount Airy; stepdaughter and spouse, Kay and Delmar Willard of Pfafftown; a son-in-law, Roger Roberts of Rural Hall; three grandchildren and spouses, Chad and Alaine Poteat of Mount Airy, Nicki and Jason Marion of Kernersville and Allison Poteat of Mount Airy; seven stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren, Tollie (Elliott) Poteat, Natalie Poteat and Kayla Marion; 21 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three sisters, Della Noah and Nannie Belle Ward, both of Mount Airy, and Louella Day of Winston-Salem. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poteat was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Roberts; a stepson, Lindsay Norman; and a brother, Claude Poteat. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013, at 11 a.m at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by the Rev. Butch Holder and Pastor Don Salmon with burial to follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
