North Surry knocked off Forbush in the second round of the 2A volleyball playoffs Tuesday.

The Lady Greyhounds overpowered the Lady Falcons by a combined 75-34 in the three games, with a double-digit margin in each set.

“We cut our unforced error numbers to an average of less than five a set, which really helped us stay on target tonight,” explained Coach Shane Slate.

“Those types of errors are like turnovers, and they will get you beat in close matches, so we want to be on a roll that keeps us from scoring for our opposition,” he said.

The Hounds took the first set 25-11, then did one point better in the next frame at 25-10. They finished the match 25-13.

“I thought we served really well and used our physical advantage at the net to block and get good swings,” said Slate.

Kristina Rumplasch led the Hounds with five blocks, while Malaya Johnson had three.

At the service line, Maddison Hawks was a perfect 17-17 with three aces. Abby Golding was 15-15 with an ace. Bailey Culler was 10-10 with three aces.

Johnson led the team with seven kills, while Molly Martin and Taylor Hill had six each.

Culler set up the front line with 23 assists.

Hawks led the back line with eight digs. Rumplasch and Martin added seven each.

North Surry improved to 29-2 on the season. The Hounds will host either West Stanly or West Davidson on Thursday.
