LOWGAP — Mr. Michael Thomas Hawks, 40, of Lowgap, passed away on Oct. 26, 2010, in Alleghany County. Michael was born in Frankfort, Germany, on Feb. 6, 1970, to Patricia Ann Venable Hawks and the late Richard Calvin Hawks. Early on Michael learned carpentry, the mason trade and the concrete and steel trade. He went on to excel in residential and commercial construction. He took his inspiration from his grandfather, Ben Venable. Michael loved life and humor. His real life stories were hilarious and his family regrets he never wrote an autobiography. He loved his daughter, Elizabeth; his family and his aunt Bennie’s Red Velvet Cupcakes. “We will miss him forever.” Michael is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Rose Hawks, and her mother, Karen Norman Cauthen of Mount Airy; his mother and stepfather, Patricia Venable Draughon and Joseph W. Draughon of Mount Airy; sister, Tracy Lynn Hawks Golding of Lowgap; paternal grandmother, Naomi Brooks Hawks of Lowgap; niece, Stacy Ann Hawks of Utah; aunt and uncle, Bennie Venable Burton and Wayne of Pilot Mountain; a special aunt, Louise Hawks Jenkins of Winston-Salem; and many loving cousins and friends. In addition to his father, Richard (aka “Hawk”) Hawks, Michael was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ben Venable and Minnie George Venable Holyfield; paternal grandfather, Raleigh Hawks; special cousin, Randy Hodges; aunt, Helen Hawks Johnson; and uncle, Ray Hawks. The family will have a private memorial service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the home of his mother, 235 Palmer Road, Mount Airy, at 12:30 p.m. Online condolences may be made at moodyfuneralservices.com.
