NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — Glenn Edward Blackburn, 92, born Sept. 2, 1920, in Mount Airy, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013. Glenn was a humble man who loved the Lord, a devoted loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, and over the years was active in the choir, a Boy Scout leader and many other church activities. For many years he delivered meals on wheels with his late wife, Betty. He was retired from Newport News Shipbuilding. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy Seabees during WWII. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Snyder Blackburn; and brothers, Guy Blackburn and Garnet Blackburn. Survivors include three sons, Edward Blackburn and wife, Susan, of Tennessee, David Blackburn and wife, Sue, of Texas, and Keith Blackburn and wife, Connie, of Virginia; brother, Donald Blackburn; sisters, Willie Sue Shelton, Ernestine Chappell and Janice Newman; and grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at the Peninsula Funeral Home Chapel with burial immediately following in Peninsula Memorial Park with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
