One county restaurant is taking the theme of community to heart, and residents can join them in helping its cause in a couple of weeks.

The Burger King in Dobson has announced that on Saturday, Oct. 6, 10 percent of its receipts will be donated to Carrie Elmore.

Elmore is an 11-year-old Central Middle School student who has been battling Ewing’s Sarcoma — a form of cancer — for six years.

During the event 10 percent of the restaurant’s sales for the day will be given to Elmore’s family to help pay medical expenses related to her treatment.

Restaurant officials say they hope the public comes out and joins them in helping Elmore.

“Come out and show your support,” said Manager Rhonda Rakes. “(Elmore) has been battling since she was five years old.”

Rakes said she just took over management of the restaurant and wants to use her new position to “reach out to the community and help local families”.

“We want to be a part of this community,” she said.

Rakes said she is intimately familiar with Elmore’s struggles.

“My children go to the school she goes to, and my family attended Bible School with her family,” she said. “We just want to do something good to try to help her a little bit.”

She encouraged community members to join her on Oct. 6.

“We’d love to see everyone come out and help this worthy cause,” she said. “During the event, anyone who wants to give a little extra will have the opportunity to put what they can in donation boxes.”
