LOWGAP — For the past 32 years, people all over Surry County and beyond have been asking, “What is a sonker?” On Oct. 6, those who ask what the fruit cobbler-style dish tastes like can find out at the 33rd Annual Sonker Festival that will be held at the Edwards-Franklin house.
Old-time music will fill the air while volunteers serve up several different varieties of sonkers from 1 to 5 p.m. In addition to the sweet sounds and sonkers, there will be impromptu flat-footing, a quilting display and a Civil War Exhibit.
Admission is free, but there is a charge for a sonker serving. Coffee and other beverages will be available for purchase.
The event is sponsored by the Surry County Historical Society.
The Edwards-Franklin house is located at 4132 Haystack Road.
