WINN, Mich. — Phillip Wilson Wolfe, 80, of Winn and Mount Airy, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, in Alma. Phil was born in Redford Township on March 25, 1929, the son of Denzil and Ethel Wilson Wolfe. Phil went to school in Weidman and took a short course in ag engineering at Michigan State University in 1948. He enjoyed racing stock cars and restoring antique tractors and entering them in shows. For a short time, he owned a trucking company and restaurant in Jonesville, Mich. He was employed by Key Line Freight, from which he retired in 1978. After he retired, he became an avid runner and completed a full marathon. Phil enjoyed spending summers in Winn, where he walked, bicycled and enjoyed planting and harvesting his garden. He is survived by his two sons, Phil and Annette Wolfe of Lansing and Gregory and Sally Wolfe of Janesville, Wis.; stepdaughter, Karen Sue Darling Jessup of Pilot Mountain, N.C.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Phyllis Carroll of Winn; two nephews; one niece; two great-nieces; and one great-nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Pauline Strandberg Wolfe and Letha Darling Wolfe; and brother-in-law, Michael Carroll. Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel, 114 S. Bradley St., Mt. Pleasant, Mich. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 26, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeremy Selvidge officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene.
