White Plains Elementary students Abby Draughn, Michaela Stone, Leah Cain, Oshyn Bryant and Emma Burnett lead the school in singing “The Star Spangled Banner” at a celebration honoring Surry County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ashley Hinson. The celebration’s theme was “Hats off to Dr. Hinson.”

White Plains Elementary Principal Sandra Scott, center, leads The White Plains Rockettes in a dance to “New York New York” as a tribute to retiring school Superintendent Dr. Ashley Hinson. Various student groups presented personalized hats to Hinson honoring the many roles he has played supporting the system. A breakfast honoring the central office staff also was held at the school Monday.
