To the Surry Arts Council and other organizers and volunteers for taking time to recognize someone as influential to old-time music as local native Tommy Jarrell. Each year, the arts council as well as others in the old-time community come together to highlight the music Jarrell made so famous, bringing attention to this area.
To all those who volunteered and donated to the Shepherd’s House annual fundraiser last weekend. Through the efforts of individuals and businesses, about $50,000 was raised to help the Shepherd’s House operate and continue to serve the homeless of the area and get them back on their feet.
To the North Carolina Cooperative Extension service and the Cana Rescue Squad. Both entities hosted free CPR training for members of the community during the past week to make sure people have the life-saving skills needed in the case of an emergency medical situation, because every second counts when someone is losing oxygen.
