To the Surry Central and Mount Airy cross-country runners. The runners are competing in the state championship meet today.

These athletes work hard before, during and after their respective sports’ seasons to stay in shape, to compete to the best of their abilities and to carry their schools’ team spirit to the top. We hope they all do well in their competitions today.

To all the poll workers for this week’s elections. Most people working the polls for voters are volunteers, doing their work simply as a public service. They play an important role in the voting process, one which makes the elections run smoothly and at a significantly lower cost than if those positions were filled with county employees.

To the more than 100 people who turned out for Sunday’s crop walk. These folks turned out despite damp and chilly conditions to help raise money that will be used to feed the needy here in the community and elsewhere in the world.
