To the United Fund of Surry County and many local businesses who have banded together to help local teens from struggling homes. Similar to a backpack program that sends nutritious food home with younger students, this program is supplying food and personal items to area teens who might not otherwise have enough food and other necessities. In so doing, these good folks are helping a segment of the local population often overlooked when it comes to meeting needs of struggling families.
To various organizations holding Sept. 11 activities, from parades to community meals, for the two-fold purpose of memorializing those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and as a way to honor firefighters and other emergency service workers throughout the community and nation. Oftentimes these sorts of things are held on milestone anniversaries, such as a 10th or 20th anniversary, but forgotten at other times. It’s good to see local folks realize these commemorations are important every year.
