County law enforcement officials are searching for suspects they say robbed a local convenience store at gunpoint early Friday morning.

According to Sheriff Graham Atkinson, at about 12:17 a.m., two men entered the Circle K convenience store located on Red Brush Road at Interstate 74.

The men are described as white males dressed in black, Atkinson said both were wearing sunglasses and were covering their faces with scarves.

“One of the men produced a handgun, approached the clerk and ordered him to take the money out of the register,” he said. “They also took a large quantity of cigarettes.”

After taking the items, the pair left the store headed back in the direction of Interstate 74, Atkinson said.

Atkinson said police are still investigating the incident, and have yet to determine whether the suspects are local residents.

“We don’t know, given that location,” he said. “It could be local people or someone traveling through.”
